We need Europe - and Europe needs us

Especially now, when the world seems to be reorganizing itself, we need a strong, capable and more democratic Europe. After all, European challenges need European solutions. National parties are reaching their limits and populist promises are putting our peace at risk. That is why we founded Volt, a movement and party for the whole of Europe.

In a guest article, author and architect Volker Thurm-Nemeth sheds light on the historical, cultural and institutional challenges of European unification and presents a possible reform of the Council of the Regions. The constituencies of this Council are intended to create a new, more citizen-oriented and transparent structure for the EU as a third pillar alongside the Parliament and Senate - as the basis for a federal Europe capable of taking action.

March 5, 2025 - The pan-European Volt party launches a petition to unite the European Union's armed forces by creating a defense union. The initiative aims to reach the European Parliament - 10,000 signatures have already been collected in a short space of time.

Open letter to the ÖVP: Commitment to democracy and Europe in the coalition agreement!

Vienna, January 9, 2025 - The pan-European party Volt makes an urgent appeal to the Austrian People's Party: In an open letter, Volt chapters from all over Europe call on the ÖVP to draw unequivocal red lines in the coalition agreement with the FPÖ in order to protect the values of democracy, the rule of law and European integration.

Electoral aid for Germany

Germany will elect a new Bundestag on 23.02.2025. Volt received just under 3% of the German electorate in the European elections and the party has grown since then. Open letter: Call for cooperation between all democratic parties!

October 2024 - Last Sunday marked a turning point in Austria: the far-right party FPÖ received the most votes. The rise of the far-right is due to emotional manipulation, fear and the offering of simple bogus solutions to complex problems. In view of the direct threat to our democracy, we are calling on all democratic parties in an open letter to work together and form a stable government without the FPÖ.

Why the FPÖ shouldn't be in government

October 2024 - The national elections in Austria have undoubtedly delivered a clear message: The far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has emerged as the strongest force. However, although it has won a considerable number of votes, the question remains as to whether the other political forces in the country should pave the way for the FPÖ to take on government responsibility. The answer to this must be a decisive “no”.

Volt Austria presents its new executive board

September 2024 - Volt Austria elected a new Federal Executive Board back in July, which is now officially in office after a handover period. Rico Winter was confirmed as Co-President for the 2nd term of office, the new Co-President is Karoline Adam. As there were candidates for all positions, the Federal Executive Board is finally complete again.

We have an election program and top candidates for the Austrian national elections! But...

...but as much as we would like to run in the National elections in order to introduce strong European policies at national level, after a draining European election campaign we unfortunately lack the resources at the moment to run an election campaign worthy of Volt.

Volt against the "Patriots for Europe" group: A strong Europe for a strong future

The "Patriots for Europe" group was recently founded in the European Parliament. The main person responsible is also the European troublemaker on duty: Victor Orban. The plan of this nationalist group is simply to dissolve the EU as we know it. Among other things, this means dismantling the rule of law, corruption and restricting free media. Volt opposes this.

Wegweisende Snap Elections in France

26.6.2024 Voter turnout among French citizens abroad is currently below 30 percent. This urgently needs to change in order to prevent a shift to the right in Europe. Help motivate French citizens in Austria to vote. Every vote against the extreme right counts!

Volt joins Greens/EFA in the European Parliament

Volt joins Greens/EFA in the European Parliament > After negotiations with both Greens/EFA and Renew Europe, Volt held a membership vote on their MEPs’ group affiliation. > A majority of 87%voted in favour of joining the Greens/EFA group.

Volt elects European top candidates and transnational list

MEPs Damian Boeselager and Sophie in 't Veld are elected as European lead candidates for Volt. Volt is the only party in Europe to put forward a transnational list with candidates from 20 European countries.

Unfortunately, we were not able to get enough declarations of support this time and will therefore not be on the ballot paper in the 2024 European elections in Austria. Nevertheless we would like to thank all of the approximately 1000 people who supported us: A huge THANK YOU!
