Volt elects European top candidates and transnational list
MEPs Damian Boeselager and Sophie in 't Veld are elected as European lead candidates for Volt. Volt is the only party in Europe to put forward a transnational list with candidates from 20 European countries.
Volt is leading by example, launching its campaign for the European Parliament elections this weekend in Brussels with a truly transnational list and a strong lead candidate duo. German MEP Damian Boeselager and Dutch MEP Sophie in 't Veld were elected by members from across Europe and will be the unifying figures in Volt's ambitious plans for a truly pan-European campaign, aiming for a greener, fairer and more innovative Europe in the European Parliament elections in June.
Damian Boeselager is convinced:
History doesn't just happen, but we as individuals have the power to decide how it will continue. We have understood this responsibility. We are showing Europe what our democracy should look like. We are the only real European party that is putting up a real transnational list with candidates from 20 different countries under the same program and name at national and European level. There are many parties that call themselves European, but there is only one that really is - and that is Volt
Sophie in 't Veld adds:
I have been passionately committed to Europe for over 30 years, but to be the lead candidate of a truly European party is something very special for me. The people who started the European project had the strength to imagine a better Europe amidst the ruins of two world wars. As the only truly European party, we are now the first to put forward a truly transnational list with truly European top candidates. We are showing Europe: it is possible!
Members voted for the first ever transnational list with candidates from 20 different European countries (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) for the European elections, marking a historic moment in European democracy and a unifying force within Volt's ambitious vision for a truly pan-European politics. This ground-breaking symbolic list is the first of its kind to be produced under the European Parliament's proposal for such a vote in the future. Volt believes that the publication of such a list is already an important step towards strengthening European democracy.
This is a significant moment for Volt, reflecting our collective ambition to promote our progressive and pan-European ideas in the next term of the European Parliament.
In the European Parliament elections, Volt aims to run in 16 different European countries and win up to 10 seats.
