What does Volt stand for? / Our election programs

Vienna 2020 electoral program

Volt is a thoroughly European party. But what does that mean at regional level? What can an election program for Vienna look like that is shaped by our European convictions?

Volt-Sand in der Wien-Wahl.

As one of Europe's most important capitals, Vienna is inextricably linked to the political development of Europe. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Vienna was transformed from a border city into a flourishing metropolis at the heart of Europe. The advantages of the single market, the common currency, cultural diversity and the European labor market are obvious for Vienna. The city benefits from the strong exchange of international companies, from many international students and from European funding.

At the same time, Vienna is a role model for many cities on the continent. Vienna sets standards in terms of quality of life, public transportation and housing. Despite the immense importance of European integration, there is still room for improvement in the inclusion of EU citizens, particularly in political matters.

Our program for Vienna sets strong priorities in the areas of Europe and democracy, sustainability, climate protection and quality of life, coexistence and equal opportunities as well as business, innovation and culture. We believe that a good life for all is possible with inclusive, European and science-based policies.

The 5+1 Challenges

Volt has defined 5+1 fundamental Challenges that need to be tackled in each European country and in Europe as a whole.

Why 5 + 1 Challenges?

The 5 Challenges are basically the same for every country, but their implementation can be adapted on the national level to take into account local realities.

The +1 Challenge – our proposal to reform and strengthen the EU – is identical across all our national programmes.
